Welcome to the ‘For Team Members: Answering Family Phone Calls Using The Huddle Tool’ eLearning course!

Introduction

Families have shared they want to know how to effectively share care information with their long-term care team. They also want to know how to work through distressing situations in a way that is mutually respectful and builds stronger relationships. In response, the Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-term Care created two learning modules that go together; one for families and one for care teams.

Families have access to an eLearning module which explains the Huddle Tool. The eLearning module you’re taking now is designed for care team members like you, to show you what the huddle tool is, and the steps you can take to support a family member calling in.

Over the next few minutes, you will watch a short video clip of a staff member and family member using the Huddle Tool together over the telephone. While the video clip is playing, it will highlight some effective communication skills used by the staff member receiving the call.  As well, other tips will be suggested to help you make telephone conversations using the Huddle Tool even more successful.

You will receive an Ontario CLRI certificate for completing this course.
