About This Course

The purpose of this elearning course is to show you how you can protect yourself and the residents you work with from injury when working in long-term care. What you will learn in this course can also be applied to other health care settings.

This course can be completed by clinical staff (registered nurses, personal support workers). It is related to topics listed as part of the mandatory training for LTC homes in Ontario.

This course shows you how to prepare yourself for safe lifts and transfers, but does not replace the policies and procedures of the home you are working in. Please ensure that you are informed of the lift and transfer policies of your LTC home before supporting a resident.

This course was developed by the Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care at Bruyère in collaboration with Occupational Health and Safety Services at Bruyère Continuing Care. Funded by the Government of Ontario through the Ontario CLRI. The views expressed in this video are the views of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect those of the Province of Ontario.

Participants will have an opportunity to practice what they have learned from this "Lifts and Transfers" e-learning module. The trainer’s resource consists of general information and templates that can be applied to any health care setting.
